#TheNewNormal – Kim Anami’s challenge

what is #thenewnormal for you?

Inspired by Kim Anami’s recent podcast on #TheNewNormal, and her challenge to name what we actually want our new normal to be… – and to believe in our immense creative potential to actually make it so! – this podcast talks to why this might be THE most positive and blessed time for humanity yet …IF we’re not racing over the cliff edge with the mainstream

What Can We Do About All This FEAR?

These are genuinely unprecedented times: we’ve never been in this state of having us all so aware of the same thing at the same time; absorbed in and by it. So what can we do with all the adrenaline, over-stimulation and projection of negative scenarios and emotions that it’s bringing up for so many of us? Rather than it threatening to drown the world, surely there’s another option?

In this podcast I’ll talk about the fear (the psychological and emotional) aspect of this virus, prompted by Sama Morningstar’s brilliant blog on how disproportionate fear can be rooted in unresolved trauma. I’m adding to this discourse, suggesting that we’re all so accustomed to being in a high-tension state of depressed, atrophied ‘reality’ – that doomsday really is a relatively short step from our everyday.

During this lock-down time, we have the perfect container to allow fears to arise and to transform them. As the air clears of smog and our avalanche lifestyles slow to a gentle, rhythmic drip, our tensions can unfold in a way that was never possible when we were in the usual grind.

Naturally, effortlessly, our thoughts and inquiries can finally fully form, and so be let go of. We can begin, collectively, to make more conscious decisions about how we want to do this thing we’re doing on planet earth. Now we’re slowed down sufficiently, we can be more aware, feel more, get in tune with what needs to be done, rather than being in this perpetual hamster wheel, just because everyone else is… We can be aware of other options, perspectives, realities.

In my understanding and embodied wisdom, we have a clear choice right now: Fear or Freedom.

So much blessed love and beauty to you today,

Deep Taproot vs Worldwide-Ticket ‘Freedom’

This podcast came through as a channelled message – from a seed thought about this love-hate struggle I’ve had with trying to become rooted in any one place… The feeling of being torn between long-term stability, and being free to think-be-do what I want, when-how-if I want.

This led me to think: why do we buy into this idea of ‘freedom’ requiring a plane journey and the affluence to book a flight just about anywhere in the world? Supposedly to keep ourselves inspired about life, stimulated and refreshed, far away from our ‘boring’ normal life … But how can this be so ‘good’ for us, when it has such an immense negative impact on the planet?

Inquiring deep into this, and blessed by having had a very small monthly income this past 6 months, which has caused me to stay home more, to think less about travelling afar… It occurs to me that this fable of ‘freedom’ being elsewhere and involving a great deal of money and resources – leaving a huge trail of destruction both behind us and often in the place that we’re visiting – there’s something that wants to be unveiled there.

Why are we conditioned to be so deeply dissatisfied with the place that we are in, that throwing ourselves half-way around the globe is the only remedy for? What would it feel like instead to be deeply rooted and satisfied, fulfilled and blissful, right where we are?

How can we become more connected with everything around us, and thus become liberated in our lives – rather than having to seek a parody of freedom by taking an aeroplane to another culture and climate? Why It Got To Be Canvas?!

a dismantled bread oven in rural Italy, waiting to be turned into art

Painting onto canvas can be an incredibly limiting presumption about our creativity, which we get caught in early on…

Using shop-bought materials for our art, particularly for surfaces is a form of colonisation of our immense creative potential. Myriad, meaningful surfaces are in fact all around us – and often freely available.

When we begin using materials that we find around us, we develop a solid foundation of relationship and depth of story within our work, which can be a missing link, when we use something prefabricated industrially.

Using found materials makes our work more unique, and more specific to our place and time. It might also make our work more relevant, more connected, more interconnected; give it a place in the world different from that of a image painted on a manufactured surface. http://www.claregalloway.com

It’s not about ‘good’ or ‘bad’, ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, but about the effect on the world, on multiple levels, that radiates outwards from our creating and creations. Listen to the podcast, to hear more
